Today was just the beginning of what meteorologists are saying could be record breaking heat in New Hampshire.
Here are some ways to keep your home cool: Sometimes it's things you don't even think about that make a world of difference in beating the heat
- keeping the window shades down.
- White window shades or mini blinds - because they can reduce solar heat by 40-50 percent.
- put a bowl of ice in front of the fan to blow cool air.
- Use box fans in a window with the air intake pulling air to the outside.
- If you live in a two-story home, staying downstairs can also keep you cooler. Heat rises to the upper floors of a home so staying downstairs makes a big difference.
- Something as simple as using ceiling lights or table lamps and add to the heat inside a home. Keep unnecessary lights off and help keep the temperature in a home lower.
- Avoid using ovens and stoves during the day which can also up the heat factor during a heat wave.
Keeping a home cool during these extreme weather conditions is not only important for an individuals comfort but for the house's health as well.
