Local children will have a chance to pet exotic animals, groove to live music and laugh until their ribs hurt as a part of the Somersworth Festival Association's Summer 2010 Kid Koncerts.

The annual series of free events are designed for children of all ages and are held at the Festival Pavilion at the Somersworth High School Football Field. The series runs each Wednesday from July 14 through Aug. 18, and each event begins at 6 p.m., rain or shine.
On July 14, children will get a chance to touch, feed and learn about a variety of exotic animals as a part of "Wildlife Encounters." The event is sponosored by D.F. Richard Energy of Dover. On July 21, Wayne from Maine, along with percussionist Jimmy James the KoongaBoonga Man, host "an interactive musical experience for the young and young at heart," said Gregoire. Volunteers will have a chance to come onstage and play percussive instruments and sing into a wireless microphone.
Other acts include: — July 28: Comedian Mr. Harley, sponsored by Public Service of New Hampshire. — Aug. 4: Comedian Todd Wellington, sponsored by Citizens Bank. — Aug. 11: Tricky Dick the Magician, sponsored by Somersworth Housing Authority. — Aug. 18: Toe Jam Puppet Band, sponsored by Service Credit Union of Somersworth. In the event of rain, shows will be held in the Somersworth High School gymnasium. An inexpensive meal, served by the Somersworth Festival Association, is available at each concert.
